Explosion in building rocks Paris, no casualties | Watch Video

A massive explosion at a multi-story building rocked French capital Paris, which was caught on camera by witnesses and widely shared on social media.

The explosion took place somewhere between the first and fifth floors of the eight-story building in 19th arrondissement at the intersection of Macdonald Boulevard and Pierre Mollaret that began around 9 pm local time.

No casualties have been reported by the authorities so far. The cause of the incident is unclear.

Around 100 firefighters and multiple fire trucks and ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene to contain the blaze which spread quickly and engulfed several floors, said a fire department spokesman.

“We have managed to contain the fire,” RT website quoted the spokesperson for the capital’s fire service, Lieutenant Gabriel Plus, as saying.

Plus said no casualties were reported so far by his personnel at work, adding, his department believes that a number of flammable items that had been stored on various balconies in the building had “certainly contributed to the extraordinarily rapid spread of this fire.”

At least 27 apartments are said to be damaged to some extent before first responders managed to get the situation under control as the fire spread quickly.

Around 20 volunteers who are reportedly setting up beds for those affected have been mobilized by the Civil Protection Paris Seine (PCPS).

The officials have reportedly confirmed that the building is relatively modern and is not served by a gas pipeline but how the blaze began remains unknown.
