Germany supports France’s move to list Masood Azhar as global terrorist at EU

Germany has come out in support of the move initiated by France to designate Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Masood Azhar as a global terrorist. The move came days after China blocked a proposal initiated by US, UK and France at the UNSC 1267 Al-Qaeda Sanctions Committee.

Discussions for the listing of Masood Azhar by European Union are underway in Brussels. Germany as part of EU member is closely cooperating with France who initiated the proposal,” German Embassy spokesperson told India Today on Tuesday.

Then 28-countries bloc has been supporting India’s fight against terrorism in the wake of the dastardly Pulwama terror attack. Sources say Germany along with France is in touch with several member nations of the European Union for listing Azhar as a terrorist which will result in his travel ban as well as freezing of his assets.

On March 15, France in a gazette notifications informed that it has taken a national decision to ban Masood Azhar resulting in imposition of financial sanctions on Azhar and also said it will move the EU to name the JeM chief on the EU list of persons and entities involved in terrorist acts.
