Barbie makers Mattel launched a new line of dolls called Creatable World this September. According to Mattel this is the world’s first gender-neutral doll.
The doll can be a boy, a girl, neither, or both. It is available in different skin tones. Each doll comes with two wigs of different lengths. There are several gender-neutral wardrobe options. The figures in both form and fashion are not coded as stereotypically male or female.
With the slogan “A doll line designed to keep labels out and invite everyone in” this line is inclusive of kids who go by various pronouns—him, her, them, xem.
Mattel describes the line as one that is ‘designed to keep labels out and invite everyone in—giving kids the freedom to create their own customizable characters again and again.’
