It is family first for the Bihari politician. Of the six seats allotted to his Lok Janshakti Party, Ram Vilas Paswan has three family members contesting three seats: son Chirag Paswan from Jamui, brother Pashupati Nath Paras from Hajipur and other sibling Ramchandra from Samastipur. But Paswan isn’t the only one.
Of the 40 seats in Bihar, 29 contestants fighting from 26 seats come from political families. Neelam Devi, wife of Independent MLA Anant Singh, and suspended Rashtriya Janata Dal JD MP Pappu Yadav’s spouse Ranjeeta Ranjan are fighting from Munger and Supaul, respectively, on a Congress ticket.
The RJD has fielded Hena Shahab, wife of former MP Shahabuddin, from Siwan, and Vibha Devi, wife of Raj Ballabh Yadav, convicted of raping a minor, from Nawada. BJP rebel and Independent candidate from Banka, Putul Devi is the widow of former MP Digvijay Singh. Rama Devi, wife of former minister Brij Bihari, will contest from Sheohar on a BJP ticket. Kavita Singh, wife of JD(U) leader Ajay Singh, is the JD(U) candidate from Siwan. Five politicians have fielded their brothers. Former MP Suraj Bhan’s brother Chandan Kumar is the LJP candidate from Nawada, BSP’s West Champaran candidate Ranjan Tewari is the brother of LJP MLA Raju Tewari. Rabri Devi’s brother Sadhu Yadav is the BSP candidate from Maharajganj.
