Launching a scathing verbal attack on State BJP president B.S. Yeddyurappa in his home turf Shikaripur, Madhu Bangarappa, JD(S) candidate for Shivamogga parliamentary seat, alleged that when Mr. Yeddyurappa was Chief Minister, he failed to provide irrigation facilities to farmers in semi-arid Shikaripur, Shivamogga and Sorab taluks.
Addressing an election campaign meeting in Balligavi village in Shikaripur taluk, Mr. Bangarappa claimed that owing to his efforts, the JD(S)-Congress coalition government in the State had sanctioned funds in the budget of 2019-20 for implementation of Hosahalli, Puradakere, Mudi-Kuneteppa lift irrigation projects that would provide water for drinking and irrigation for drought-affected villages in Shikaripur, Shivamogga and Sorab taluks. It was unfortunate that Mr. Yeddyurappa, who didn’t strive for the implementation of these projects during his tenure as CM, was indulging in false propaganda now saying that owing to his efforts the State government had sanctioned funds for them, Mr. Bangarappa said.
On the problems faced by small and marginal farmers in the district owing to rejection of their claims for land grants under the Forest Rights Act, 2006, he said the provisions in the Act to furnish proof of domicile in forest regions from 75 years or three generations needed to be amended for the implementation of the Act. He alleged that BJP MPs elected from Shivamogga since 2009 failed to raise a voice in the parliament for the amendment of Act.
Mr. Bangarappa also addressed election campaign meetings in Togarsi, Manchikoppa, Tadagani, Tumminakatte, Shivaji Kaniya, Mudaba Siddapura, Amatekoppa and Ambaragoppa villages in Shikaripur taluk.
