Bar Chief Minister from using Statefacilities for party affairs: YSRCP

YSR Congress MP V. Vijaya Sai Reddy requested the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Andhra Pradesh to instruct the Chief Secretary and other officials concerned to strictly implement the Model Code of Conduct (MCC), and raised objection to the use of State facilities by the Chief Minister for his party (TDP) activities.

In a letter to the CEO on Sunday, Mr. Vijaya Sai Reddy said it was learnt from the media that the Chief Minister had called for a meeting of the party MLAs at Praja Vedika which was a government facility in spite of the MCC being in force.

He pointed out that when the MCC was under implementation, the Chief Minister and Ministers were barred from using government facilities (meeting halls, guest houses etc.) for party activities.

The use of video and teleconference facilities owned by the State was also prohibited.

‘Permission must’

Prior permission has to be obtained from Election Commission of India for using such facilities. If the usage of any State facility was to be allowed, they should be allotted to all political parties without any discrimination.

“We have no knowledge whether the interim Chief Minister approached the Election Commission of India or not in that regard and whether it (ECI) gave permission,” Mr. Reddy said.
