BJP releases second list of LS candidates

The Bharatiya Janata Party released a list of 36 candidates from four States for the upcoming 2019 general elections in the wee hours of Saturday.

The list includes the highest number of candidates from Andhra Pradesh — 23 — along with six candidates from Maharashtra, five from Odisha and one each from Assam and Meghalaya.

The development comes close on the heels of the ruling party releasing its first list of 184 candidates for 20 States, which included Prime Minister Narendra Modi contesting from Varanasi and party president Amit Shah from Gandhinagar, instead of veteran leader Lal Krishna Advani who had won the seat in the last five Lok Sabha polls.

In Maharashtra, the saffron party hoping to return to office, has opted to field Smita Uday Wagh from Jalgaon, Pratap Chikkalkar from Nanded, Dr. Bharat Pawar from Dindori in the ST category, Girish Bapat from Pune, Kanchan Kul from Baramati and Dr. Jaysidheshvar Swami from Solapur in the SC category.
