Dal Khalsa demands reinstatement of Punjab IG

Days after Inspector General of Police Vijay Pratap Singh, a member of the Special Investigation Team probing the 2015 sacrilege and police firing incidents in Punjab, was transferred on the directions of the Election Commission, a delegation of radical Sikh outfit Dal Khalsa and family members of the two Sikhs allegedly killed in the firing demanded his reinstatement.

Dal Khalsa leaders Harpal Singh Cheema, Kanwarpal Singh and human rights activist Jagmohan Singh, along with Sukhraj Singh and Mahinder Singh, the son and father of deceased Krishan Bhagwan Singh, and Sadhu Singh, father of another deceased Gurjeet Singh, submitted a memorandum to Chief Electoral Officer S. Karuna Raju on Thursday, seeking reinstatement of the officer.

The delegation told the CEO that Mr. Vijay Pratap Singh had emerged as the face of the SIT as a result of his dedicated work and commitment that he had shown in arresting the “two top guilty policemen”, and removing him amounts to obstructing the course of investigation.

Mr. Kanwarpal Singh said “in case the ECI does not review its decision, people would lose faith in it”.
