Five Maoists reported killed in Odisha encounter

Five Maoists are suspected to have died in an exchange of fire with security personnel in Odisha’s Koraput district on May 8 afternoon.

According to Koraput Superintendent of Police Kanwar Vishal Singh, the encounter occurred in Padiua police station area. “Details are awaited as the security personnel involved in this operation had not yet returned from the remote hilly jungle region,” he said.

As per sources, this encounter took place inside Kituakanti forest under Hatibari panchayat of Nandapur block. Two female and three male Maoists are suspected to have been killed. Till now there was no report of any injury of any security personnel involved in the operation.

Sources says that a secret Maoist camp operating inside the forest was unearthed during a joint operation by personnel of Special Operation Group (SOG) and District Voluntary Force (DVF) of Koraput Police. Arms, ammunition and other goods used by Maoists were seized from the spot, the sources add.
