Goa youth questions Minister on job, held

A youth was arrested at Valpoi in North Goa on Thursday for questioning local MLA and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane for not being given employment, at a BJP campaign meeting for the party’s candidate and Union Minister Sripad Naik.

The Congress on Friday condemned the arrest, calling it an act of frustration by the BJP.

“This is how the BJP is misusing its power and it it is now frustrated. This is happening because Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, who is the Home Minister, is misusing the police. The Congress condemns this action,” said party spokesperson Trajano D’Mello.

Sources close to the Minister said the youth, Darshan Gaonkar from Hivrem village, was instigated by the Opposition to disrupt the corner meeting and he had been unruly during the event. Mr. Rane declined to comment.

During the meeting, Mr. Gaonkar asked Mr. Rane why he had not been provided a job despite being his active supporter for more than a decade.
