Haryana Duelling Dynasts

The Hisar Lok Sabha seat in Haryana is all set to witness a three-way contest between the third and fourth generation dynasts of powerful political clans.

While the Congress is hosting former chief minister Bhajan Lal’s grandson Bhavya Bishnoi, the Jannayak Janata Party has re-nominated Dushyant Chautala, a great-grandson of former deputy prime minister Devi Lal. Even the BJP has put forth a ‘political blue-blood’ in Bhajendra Singh, the son of Union minister Birender Singh and great-grandson of Jat leader Sir Chhotu Ram.

All three contestants are eminently qualified: Bhavya is a London School of Economics graduate; Dushyant, the sitting MP, has a management degree from the California State University (Bakersfield); and Bhajendra quit the IAS to join the electoral fray.
