Media disclosure lends credence to Congress’ allegation of bogus voting in Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency

Media disclosures of bogus voting in a booth at Pilathara here lends credence to the Congress’ allegation that there was large scale electoral malpractices such as impersonation in the district on the polling day.

A Malayalam news channel disclosed visuals of alleged bogus voting in the booth number 19 at the Pilathara AUP School in the Payyannur Assembly segment which is in the Kasaragod Lok Sabha constituency. The footage of polling in the booth shows women casting their votes more than once in the booth and alleged CPI(M) workers standing inside the booth in violation of the rules.

“Many cases of bogus voting in different parts of the district have been brought to our notice,” said district Congress president Satheeshan Pacheni at a press conference here on Saturday. He said that the party would bring all those involved in bogus voting and malpractices before law.

According to the disclosure of the Mathrubhumi TV, those engaged in electoral malpractices in the booth number 19 are allegedly CPI(M) workers. The footage shows a woman in sari casting her vote twice in the polling booth. She has been identified by the channel as on Padmini, who is 774 serial number voter in the booth. It also shows a young lady wearing blue shawl, whom the channel identifies as a member in the Cheruthazham panchayat, Kannur district, and serial number 213 voter in booth number 50 in Cheruthazham panchayat, casting vote. The footage obtained from webcasting stream also shows another lady wearing white shawl whom the channel identifies as a voter in booth number 24.

The booth also saw the unauthorised presence of some alleged local CPI(M) workers with the presiding officer trying in vain to keep them out of the polling booth which has only a single door for entry and exit.
