NHAI told to take up road improvement work

Hassan Deputy Commissioner R. Girish has instructed the officers of National Highway Authority of India to start the work on improvement of the stretch of NH 75 between Hassan by-pass and Maranahalli near Sakleshpur at the earliest.

The roadwork has been stopped for several months, forcing locals to stage protests demanding the early completion of the work.

At a meeting with NHAI officials and activists from Sakleshpur, here on Friday, the DC said he had received many complaints about the bad road. Minister for Muzrai Kota Srinivas Poojari had called him to complain about the road. “I too have travelled on the road and noticed its bad state,” he said. The work was allotted to a Gujarat-based company in 2016. It was given till December 2019. However, the company did not show any progress.

NHAI officials told the DC that they have issued a notice to the company asking it to restart the work by October 24. The DC told NHAI officials to issue another notice immediately and withdraw the project from the company if it failed to resume the work.

Shiradi Raste Ulisi Horata Samiti president Sanjit Shetty said the people of Sakleshpur would intensify the protest if the district administration failed to start the work immediately.
