A notice has been issued to a sector officer seeking his explanation for carrying spare EVMs in an autorickshaw to the polling booth in Bharati English Medium School, Kulai, from where they were sent to the demustering centre, on April 18.
After polling on April 18, the sector officer brought the spare EVMs with him in his official vehicle to the polling booth in the school in Kulai. These spare EVMs were to be sent along with the EVMs used in the polling booth to the demustering centre. While bringing the EVMs, his car broke down and he hired an autorickshaw to reach the booth.
Party activists questioned the act and called Manglauru North MLA Bharath Shetty to the spot. Congress activists, too, came to the polling booth. Assistant Commissioner and other election officials rushed to the spot to explain the situation. Mr. Shetty, the BJP and the Congress activists then left the place.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. said the sector officer had discharged his duty of carrying the spare EVMs along with him. He should have asked for another vehicle. “The only questionable action is his use of autorickshaw than calling for a spare vehicle. A notice has been issued seeking his explanation,” he said.
