Security forces on Wednesday killed one unidentified militant during an operation in Pulwama’s Tral.
A police spokesman said that based on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched jointly by security forces at Branpatri, a forest area of Tral.
“During the search operation, the hiding militants fired at the search party. In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and the body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” said the police.
The identity and affiliation of the slain militant are being ascertained, the police added.
Incriminating material, including arms and ammunition, has been recovered from the site of the encounter, according to the police.
Meanwhile, clashes erupted in Tral during the operation. Scores of local youth hurled stones at security forces. Tear smoke shells were used to disperse the crowd.
