The polling staff reportedly deleted at least 125 votes that were polled on the Electronic Voting Machine after they have learnt that they did not clear the votes casted during the mock poll drive in Machilipatnam assembly segment.
Machilipatnam assembly segment Returning Officer J. Udaya Bhaskar told The Hindu; “The polling staff led by Presiding Officer (of 135/75 booth in Machilipatnam town) have deleted the 125 votes that were added to the votes casted in the mock polling drive to check the functioning of the EVM.”
“All the 125 voters whose votes have been deleted on the respective EVM have been informed through various sources, allowing them to cast their vote again. New EVM has been replaced in the same booth to continue the voting”, said Mr. Udaya Bhaskar.
On being learnt about the deletion of their votes on the EVM, a few voters managed to turn up to the polling booth 135/75 to vote again.
Kalisetti Suryanarayana and Parasa Srinivasa Rao – whose votes have been deleted on the EVM – told The Hindu that they were informed about the deletion of their votes through the locals. However, many voters did not aware of this incident.
