Pookkottoor set to host State’s biggest Haj camp

The 19th edition of the Pookkottoor Haj camp will be held on the Khilafat Campus on Saturday and Sunday.

Haj camp chairman Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal said here on Thursday that it would be the biggest training session for prospective Hajis in the State.

Samastha Kerala Jamiyyathul Ulama president Syed Jifri Muthukoya Thangal will inaugurate the camp at 9.30 a.m. on Saturday.

Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) State president Syed Hyderali Shihab Thangal will inaugurate the valedictory session on Sunday morning.

Samastha general secretary K. Alikutty Musliar will preside. Kozhikode Kazi Syed Mohammed Koya Thangal Jamalullaili will lead a mass prayer session on Sunday afternoon.

IUML general secretary P.K. Kunhalikutty will release a Haj guide. Sunni Yuvajana Sangham State secretary Abdussamad Pookkottoor will lead the camp.

Top Sunni and IUML leaders will attend different sessions.

About 10,000 people who are planning this year’s Haj in private and government categories from the State and its neighborhood are expected to attend the two-day camp.

Hands-on training

The Islamic jurisprudence of Haj, places of pilgrim interest and international travel will be covered in the camp. Hands-on training of major rites of the Haj will be given using a miniature Kaba set up at the camp.

Facilities for 10,000 people have been set up at Pookkottoor. Free transport will be available to the camp from Aravankara and Pookkottoor on Saturday and Sunday. Participants can contact the organisers at 04832771819 or 9633838288 for registration and accommodation.
