The Karamadai police here have added charges of abetment to the FIR registered in connection with the alleged suicide by an accountant of Future Gaming and Hotel Services Private Limited belonging to ‘lottery king’ Santiago Martin on Friday.
The accountant, who was working with the company for the last 25 years, was found dead in a pond on the city’s outskirts on Friday afternoon.
According to the police, the I-T officials subjected the 45-year-old accountant from Urumandampalayam in Coimbatore, to a marathon interrogation at his house and office.
The questioning began on Tuesday evening and went on till Thursday during the raids they conducted at various offices and properties of the firm in Coimbatore, the police said.
He left home at 7 a.m. on Friday on a scooter informing his son that he was going to office.
Around 10.30 a.m. the son received a call from his father’s colleague stating that he had not come to office.
The police informed them around 3 p.m. that he was found dead in the pond.
The petition lodged by his son at Karamadai police station said that his father ended life due to frustration following continuous interrogation by the I-T officials. When asked whether the I-T sleuths abetted the alleged suicide, Periyanaickenpalayam DSP Mani said that the police were investigating. Meanwhile, the son submitted a petition before the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Coimbatore, on Saturday seeking to give orders to autopsy the body at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital in the presence of a magistrate alleging suspicion in the death and wanted the procedure to be videographed.
