Will seek DMK’s support to overthrow current govt., says AMMK leader

The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) will seek the support of the DMK in the Assembly to overthrow the AIADMK government, the party’s propaganda secretary, Thanga Tamilselvan, said here on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters, he said that when the counting of votes ends on the evening of May 23, the end of the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu would begin. He said the results from the 22 Assembly constituencies would mean that the AMMK would be in a better position to set the tone for the AIADMK’s exit.

As of now, though there has been no talks with the opposition parties, the AMMK was hopeful of sending the AIADMK out with the people’s mandate. In case it required support in the Assembly, the AMMK would seek the help of the DMK, he claimed.

However, when asked whether the AMMK would support the DMK to form the next government, if the AIADMK government fell, he replied in the negative.

On the remarks made by Fisheries Minister D. Jayakumar that the AMMK was the ‘B’ team of the DMK, Mr. Tamilselvan said, “if we were together (DMK and AMMK), we wouldn’t have contested alone in the polls. Knowing well that they are losing the battle, the AIADMK is indulging in spinning such tales, which have no basis in truth.”

Earlier, Mr. Tamilselvan visited the sub-jail where his partyman Selvam is being held. He figured in the FIR as an accused in the ₹1.48 crore cash seizure case in Andipatti.

He said the entire case was well planned with the intention to defame the AMMK.

“We will face the case legally and come out with a clean chit. The police acted at the behest of some AIADMK men here in Theni district. All this would be exposed soon,” he said.
