The YSR Congress Party has nominated two first-timers from both the Parliamentary Constituencies in Anantapur district, among the nine names announced by the party for Lok Sabha elections.
As the 14 nominees from the Assembly constituencies announced on Sunday, there were no surprises and a fine balance of caste was maintained by the party. Celebrations broke out in the city with party cadre bursting crackers as the party nomineted four-time MP Anantha Venkatarami Reddy from the Anantapur Urban Assembly Constituency. With Kapu Ramachandra Reddy getting renominated from Rayadurg and Kalava Srinivasulu’s name cleared by the TDP late Saturday night, fireworks are expected during the campaign.
Former IG K. Iqbal Ahmed Khan, who swicthed to the YSRCP from the TDP, will be taking on sitting MLA Nandamuri Balakrishna from Hindupur. DRDA former Project Director Talari Rangaiah nominated as the party candidate from Anantapur constituency. Having taken VRS from his service, he has been active in the YSRC Party activities in the district. He is likely to be pitched against sitting Anantapur MP J.C. Diwakar Reddy’s son J.C. Pavan Reddy. The candidature of Mr. Pavan Reddy is yet to be officially announced by the TDP, though he is confident of getting it after his father chose to opt out of electoral politics.
Former CI fielded
The second nominee from Hindupur Parliamentary Constituency— Gorantla Madhav—was police CI till recently and quit the job to plunge into politics. Hailing from Kurnool district, he had worked in Anantapur and had a very unique style bringing him into limelight in the media frequently. He had even challenged Anantapur MP J.C. Diwakar Reddy during a showdown between the police officers’ association and the MP in the Prabhodananda Swamy Ashram case in September 2018. He is will be pitted against two-time MP Nimmala Kishtappa of the TDP from Hindupur Constituency. He is a seasoned politician and had won from the constituency in 2009 and 2014.
