Ashes 2019: Jofra Archer handed maiden call-up, Ben Stokes back as England vice-captain

England announced their 14-man squad for the 1st of the 5-match Ashes Test series against Australia on Saturday. Joe Root will be leading the hosts at Edgbaston in Birmingham from August 1.

Fast bowler Jofra Archer, who shone with 20 wickets in England’s victorious World Cup campaign, has been handed a maiden Test call-up. Ben Stokes, who was stripped off vice-captaincy after Bristol street brawl in 2018, has been reappointed as the debuty to Joe Root.

Pacer James Anderson, who missed the only Test against Ireland at Lord’s earlier this week with an injujry, has been named in the squad.
