Kolkata Knight Riders coach Jacques Kallis was all praise for Andre Russell who powered the team to victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens on Sunday.
“Russell is one of the most powerful hitters I have seen,” said Kallis on Monday. “It was a good knock and he timed it well. There were issues, including a light failure, but he got the runs despite all that. It was some of the best ball-striking I have seen in a long time.”
The West Indian smashed an unbeaten 49 off just 19 deliveries, scoring 38 off 10 balls in the 18th and 19th overs bowled by Siddarth Kaul and skipper Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Kallis revealed that Nitish Rana was asked to open the innings owing to an injury suffered by Sunil Narine while bowling, adding that the team will keep making changes during the season.
“Narine hurt his finger while fielding. There are a few tactical things we will keep changing throughout the season so that we do not become predictable,” said Kallis.
He said Narine’s injury was not serious and will be fit for the next game.
