India vs Australia 2nd ODI Brief Score: India (250) beat Australia (242) by 8 runs to take 2-0 lead in 5-match series. Stoinis (52), Handscomb (48), Kuldeep (3/54). Full Scorecard

Australia captain Aaron Finch lauded his side’s effort after going down by 8 runs in the second one day international at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur on Tuesday. India captain Virat Kohli smashed his 40th hundred to help India take a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.

Kohli scored 116 off 120 balls after India were sent in and were bowled out for 250 in the 49th over. In reply, Australia were all out for 242 in 49.2 overs.

“Virat Kohli was the difference in the game, if one of our main batters had done the job, we would have got across the line,” Finch said at the post match presentation ceremony.

Australia were in the chase until the last over when, needing 11 to win with two wickets left, Marcus Stoinis was trapped leg before wicket on 52 by medium-pacer Vijay Shankar off the first ball, and Adam Zampa was bowled two balls later.

“It was close, was one of the games that we wanted to take as deep as we can. [Marcus] Stoinis played a really superb innings but we couldn’t get across the line. I thought if Stoinis takes a risk early and gets out, we have no chance at all. It was important for him to take it deep and I am sure he will learn from this. In the future, we will get across the line,” Finch said.

“[Australia were never ahead] Not at any stage really, not on this pitch against this Indian attack.”

Finch, who has been struggling for form for quite some time now, hit 37 off 53 and looked in good touch.

“Would have been good to get more, starts don’t win you games,” he said.

The third ODI will be played in Ranchi on Friday.
