India vs South Africa: Team India eye record 11th successive home Test series win

Indian cricketers hit the nets for their first practice session in Vishakhapatnam before the first Test between India and South Africa starting on October 2nd.

Team India skipper Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma were seen sweating it out in the nets along with Indian pacers Mohammad Shami and Ishant Sharma. Kohli was seen playing a range of shots in the video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Twitter. Kohli had scored an unbeaten 79 and 9 in the 2nd and 3rd T20I match against South Africa.

Team India will start the home leg of their World Test Championship with the series against South Africa and are firm favourites to win the 3-Test series. If India win, this will be its 11th consecutive Test series win at home, the most by any side.

Virat Kohli led Indian team are the top-ranked team in the Test rankings and started their campaign in the World Test Championship with a win over the West Indies in the Carribean earlier this year. Ahead of the series against South Africa, India got a major setback as pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the series due to a minor stress fracture in his lower back.

Besides Ishant Sharma, a leaner and meaner Mohammed Shami will also look to shoulder more responsibility and take the load of spinners Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, based on whoever is playing.

A young South African team, thin on batting experience after the retirement of Hashim Amla, might not test a strong Indian bowling battery but it surely will lack teeth against the likes of Faf du Plessis, Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma over three five-day rubbers despite home conditions bringing into play spin factor more than pace.
