Dinesh Karthik appeared to give his players a dressing down after Kolkata Knight Riders lost their way in their penultimate match of the 2019 Indian Premier League against Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Friday. Sandeep Warrier had removed KL Rahul and Chris Gayle early but KKR lost their way thereafter.
Kolkata Knight Riders had won 4 out of their first 5 matches in the 2019 Indian Premier League before losing 6 in a row. As the tournament progressed, it became evident not all was well in the KKR camp. Andre Russell, KKR’s best player this season, questioned the team’s decision-making in a press conference.
Nothing is right in the @KKRiders camp
Russell has not been happy with the Team Decisions

It was perhaps more bad decision-making in Mohali that led to Sunil Narine looking expressing his displeasure on the field. It looked like he was upset at not getting another over when his West Indian teammate Nicholas Pooran had just started to explode. Robin Uthappa, a KKR veteran, even looked like agreeing with Narine.
After Piyush Chawla went for 14 runs in his first over and the timeout was called, Dinesh Karthik gathered his players around and seemed to have a public meltdown as he gave his men a dressing-down for some poor efforts on the field.
Never seen DK this animated ever in my life. He literally shouted at everyone during that team huddle in between overs. Jacques Kallis just stood there watching!
All is not well with the KKR team and this needs to be addressed in a matured way.#KXIPvKKR #KKR #DineshKarthik #IPL

Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Robin Uthappa and other star players in the team looked glum while coach Jacques Kallis stood next to Karthik.
Dinesh Karthik giving some serious words to #KKR players during the strategic time-out and rightly so. Why show your displeasure (Narine & Uthappa) on the field when the team has enjoyed a good start. KKR management should officially warn Narine and Uthappa!#IPL2019 #KXIPvKKR

In a press conference following KKR’s defeat against Rajasthan Royals late last month, Andre Russell blamed the bowling for the team’s downward spiral.
“They said we have been struggling in batting. But the batting has not been struggling really. We are getting the totals that we should have defended.
“But when you bowl as bad as our bowlers, you don’t really take catches — we have been the worst fielding team so far,” Russell had said.
Andre Russell, who has hit the most sixes in the 2019 IPL, was also not happy with his batting position lower down the order. He was promoted to No.3 against Mumbai Indians at Eden Gardens and smashed an unbeaten 80 off 40 before picking up crucial wickets and taking catches to script a 34-run win for KKR.
