Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers were happy men after securing the first win for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2019 Indian Premier League. Virat Kohli scored 67 while AB de Villiers remained unbeaten on 59 off 38 balls to help RCB defeat Kings XI Punjab by 8 wickets in Mohali on Saturday.
Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 99 had helped KXIP set a 174-run target for RCB who had lost all their 6 matches in the 2019 IPL before Saturday. However, Kohli and de Villiers added 85 for the 2nd wicket as RCB won with 4 balls to spare.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers are the most prolific scorers in the IPL but RCB have had a poor time in the IPL in recent years. Both men were on fire when RCB reached the final in 2016 but 2017 and 2018 were nightmarish for the team. This season has been torrid too but their maiden win should spur them on.

Virat Kohli said he was happy to finally give an interview to the broadcasters as a winning captain.
“The most pleasing thing is coming for an interview at this time, and not immediately out of the field,” Kohli said at the post-match presentation ceremony. “It’s a great feeling to get across the line. We have been unlucky in couple of the games. Won’t say we’ve been unlucky in every game, but a couple of games we should’ve closed out before this,” he said.
Virat Kohli said his men were determined and had the desire to earn their first points of the season.
AB de Villiers was named man-of-the-match for his unbeaten knock and he said the win against KXIP was a step in the right direction. He added his indifferent form did not perturb him.
“We waited for a long time for this, so we’re very happy. It’s a very small step in the right direction, but also a big one. I’ve got too much respect of the game to be upset about that, to get ahead of myself, to get too hard on myself. It needs one knock to get back in that confidence zone, and hopefully I can maintain that now,” de Villiers said.
Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers in form is great news for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Saturday was the 10th time both men scored fifties in the same innings for RCB.
On Saturday, Virat Kohli also became the leading Indian run-scorer in T20 cricket.
