MS Dhoni first ever captain to win 100 matches in IPL history

MS Dhoni on Thursday created yet another record as he became the first captain in Indian Premier League history to register 100 wins in the tournament. As captain, MS Dhoni has won 29 matches more than Gautam Gambhir, who is second on the list with 71 wins (129 matches).

MS Dhoni led Chennai Super Kings to a 4-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Thursday to create history.

The Super Kings chased down the target of 152 with Dhoni top-scoring with 58 runs while Ambati Rayudu made 57 as the defending champions consolidated their position at the top of the table with 12 points from 7 games.

MS Dhoni is the most experienced captain in the Indian Premier League. He has led Chennai Super Kings in 152 matches. In 2016, Dhoni led Rising Pune Supergiant in 14 matches. Overall, MS Dhoni has been captain in 166 IPL matches.

Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings in 152 matches and won 95 matches as captain. He won only five matches as captain of Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016.

In the 12 editions of the IPL, the only season MS Dhoni did not lead a team was in 2017 when RPS named Steve Smith their skipper.

Chennai Super Kings were out of the IPL for two years in 2016 and 2017 due to their suspension. In 2018, MS Dhoni took charge as CSK captain again and led the team to their third title. The win last year also saw Dhoni equalling Rohit Sharma’s record of 3 IPL wins.

Chennai Super Kings’s match against Kings XI Punjab last week was Dhoni’s 150th for the Super Kings which made him the second player after Suresh Raina to reach the landmark.

Overall, MS Dhoni has played 182 matches in the IPL and scored 4172 runs at an average of 41.30 with 21 fifties (19 for CSK and 2 for RPS) and 121 dismissals as wicketkeeper.

Dhoni has been in fine form in IPL 2019 with the bat. Having played a few match-winning knocks already, the wicketkeeper-batsman has collected 156 runs from six matches and has remained unbeaten on three of those occasions.

Apart from MS Dhoni, another Chennai Super Kings player also reached a special milestone in the game on Thursday.

Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who has been a consistent performer for CSK, entered the 100 wickets club in his 161st match in the Twenty20 league. He is the first left-arm spinner to reach the landmark but the slowest bowler overall to get there.
