The biggest attraction of the day will be the WWE Championship match between former UFC stars Brock Lesnar and Cain Velasquez. While Lesnar has become a household name as WWE wrestler, Valesquez made a surprise debut on SmackDown. The WWE has come up with a nice narrative as Valesquez dominated Lesnar during the latter’s win over Kofi Kingston.
When Brock Lesnar’s challenger for Thursday’s WWE title was asked how he was feeling as no one ever has had their WWE debut match for the WWE Championship, Cain sounded confident saying he has been ready for the ‘big match’ for the past 9 years.
Cain Velasquez: “What’s going through my mind? I believe this match has been 9 years in the making. I’ve been waiting for this match for a while. I’ve a lot of extra motivation going into this match for what has happened in the past few weeks. So I’m ready.”
There is history between the two as Valesquez had taken the UFC heavyweight championship from Lesnar in October.
There is more for WWE fans in Saudi as Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair are back as well. Team Hulk vs Team Flair will be a 5-on-5 tag team match coached by the legendary names. Roman Reigns, Rusev, Ricochet, Shorty G and Ali are part of Team Hulk while Randy Orton, King Corbin, Bobby Lashley, Shinsuke Nakamura and Drew McIntyre will battle them in Team Flair. Meanwhile Team Hulk Hogan captain Roma Reigns wasn’t short on confidence either.
Roman Reigns: “It’s an absolute honour to be on Team Hogan. Like Ric and Randy, me and Hogan, we go way back. We go even further back. Everybody on Team Flair, I’ve beaten every single one of those men. And when it comes to Randy and Ric, tomorrow win will be the greatest win for Team Hogan. And I’m gonna lead that win.”
Former heavyweight boxing champion Tyson Fury also made his SmackDown debut and will be in action at Crown Jewel. He will take on Braun Strowman after multiple locker room showdowns in the recent past.
AJ Styles will also be in Riyad to delight the WWE fans as he will be fighting for United States Championship on Thursday.
