The Congress District Committee on Sunday passed a proposal to field Priyadarshini Raje Scindia from the Madhya Pradesh’s Gwalior Lok Sabha seat in the upcoming general elections. The proposal has been passed by the Congress leaders from Gwalior’s urban and rural committees.
Priyadarshini Raje Scindia is Congress General Secretary Jyotiraditya Scindia from Uttar Pradesh (West). The proposal was announced by Madhya Pradesh minister Lakhan Singh.

There have been speculations that Priyadarshini Raje Scindia could contest from Guna constituency in Madhya Pradesh if Jyotiraditya Scindia contests from Gwalior parliamentary constituency in the Lok Sabha polls.
The reports emerged after Congress President Rahul Gandhi appointed Jyotiraditya Scindia — the incumbent MP from Guna constituency — as the General Secretary in-charge for western Uttar Pradesh.
Jyotiraditya Scindia has been a Member of Parliament from Guna constituency since the year 2002. The seat has also been represented by Jyotiraditya’s grandmother Vijaya Raje and father Madhavrao Scindia.
In February, Manish Rajput, the head of Jyotiraditya Scindia’s election campaign committee, had said that the decision whether she will be contesting or not rests with the Scindias.
“But one thing is for certain. Only the candidate, who has the support of the Scindias would win from Guna. That is because the Scindias have always considered the people of Guna as part of their own family and have done whatever they could for their betterment,” he said.
The Lok Sabha elections in Madhya Pradesh will be held in four phases. The polling in Gwalior and Guna constituencies will be held in the sixth phase on May 12. The counting of the votes has been scheduled for May 23.
