A resident from West Bengal, who is onboard a luxury cruise ship off the Japanese coast, is stuck in the vessel along with many passengers, some of them are infected with the coronavirus. Binay Kumar Sarkar had earlier posted a video on social media, discussing the condition that he is in.
Although he is confident that he will be able to return home in North Dinajpur by February 20, he explained that the situation in the ship is not very good. More than 38 people have been afflicted by the deadly coronavirus.
Binay Kumar Sarkar was heard saying in the video: “A renowned Japanese doctor is helping us. I have made only one request and that is to conduct the tests and isolate the people inflicted with the disease. Our Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had a word with the Japanese consulate. The Foreign department is working on it. I am thankful to everyone who is trying their best to help us out in this situation.”
However, he has also made a request through the video to not bring in any politics into it.
“I don’t want any politics regarding this. I am not a member of any political party; I am just a common man of West Bengal. I request CM Mamata Banerjee as well as Debashree Roy Chowdhury to not to do any politics on this video. If everything remains stable then I am returning home on February 20,” he said.
In Dinajpur, his family is equally distressed. His mother said, “My son is in a ship in Japan. Coronavirus outbreak has affected about 41 people there. I’m very worried about my son. I just hope that the government somehow brings back my son.”
