The Enforcement Directorate on Thursday produced late drug trafficker Iqbal Mirchi’s close aide Humayun Merchant at PMLA Court on Thursday after his custodial remand ended.
While investigating and tracking the benami properties belonging to Mirchi, the ED had found that proceeds worth thousands of crores from sales and mortgage of the said properties was laundered out of the country and reportedly used for terror financing.
Humayun Merchant was arrested on October 22 after his role of acting as front and facilitator for sale of properties belonging to Iqbal Mirchi came to light after arrests of Haroun Yusuf and Ranjit Singh Bindra.
Merchant was remanded to two days custody on October 22. The federal agency informed the PMLA court that they didn’t need Merchant’s custodial remand anymore and he be sent to judicial custody.
The PMLA court sent Merchant to judicial custody till November 7.
Meanwhile, the bail application for Bindra who was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday, was kept for hearing at the PMLA court.
The ED officials who had to file their statement on the bail application informed the court that they were not ready with their response and sought time till November 4 for the same.
Another accused Rinku Deshpande who had helped receive funds to the tune of Rs 30.40 crore into her accounts for Bindra for mirchi’s property deals, will be produced in the PMLA court on Friday.
