Lok Sabha polls: Sonia Gandhi files nomination from Raebareli

UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Thursday (April 11) filed her nomination from the Raebareli seat for the Lok Sabha elections 2019.

Earlier in the day, Sonia Gandhi performed havan ahead of filing the nomination from Raebareli. Her son and Congress party president Rahul Gandhi and daughter Priyanka Gandhi Vadra were also present.

Sonia Gandhi will be contesting the elections to retain the Raebareli seat for the fifth time.

Previously, Sonia Gandhi won the Raebareli seat in 2004, 2006 (bypolls), 2009 and 2014.

The Raebareli seat, which will head for voting in the fifth-phase on May 6, will see a straight contest between Sonia Gandhi and Dinesh Pratap Singh, who recently joined the BJP after leaving the Congress.

The Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party have not fielded any candidate in this Congress bastion.
