Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is scheduled to visit Leh on Monday to inaugurate a strategic bridge in Eastern Ladakh which will cut travel time to the border with China.
On his return journey, Rajnath Singh, along with the three services chiefs, will review the security situation with Pakistan along the Line of Control (LoC).
Rajnath Singh will also take decisions on critical defence deals for strengthening security on the borders with Pakistan and China.
Last week, defence ministry sources had said, “The defence minister is scheduled to visit the Ladakh region on Monday next week where he will review the operational preparedness and security situation on the mountainous border with both Pakistan and China border.”
The defence minister is also scheduled to visit the forward locations and positions of Indian Army in the area which is one of the coldest military operational zones in the world.
Rajnath Singh’s visit to Leh comes a day after the Indian Army hit Pakistan Army posts in retaliation to Pakistani attempts to infiltrate terrorists into India.
At least three terror launch pads in Jura, Athmuqam and Kundalsahi in PoK were targeted and destroyed by the Indian Army, sources said. Five Pakistani Army personnel were killed in the retaliatory firing by the Indian Army.
The action by the Indian Army was taken after posts assisting terrorist infiltration were identified on Sunday night and hit after Pakistan used artillery fire targeting civilian areas, army sources said.
