Very severe Cyclone Kyarr intensifies into super cyclonic storm

According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa, the Cyclone Kyarr, which has been gaining momentum in the past few days, has further intensified into super cyclone.

IMD Goa official Rahul M said, “Very severe cyclone Kyarr has further intensified into super cyclone. Now it is over east central Arabian Sea, approx 650 km away from Goa.”

“Even though the system is very severe over east central Arabian Sea, it is going to have very minimal impact on Goa,” Rahul said.

He also said that there were no heavy rainfall warnings for the coming five days.

“As on today there are no heavy rainfall warnings for coming 5 days. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea for 24 more hours.”

Rahul also said that after 24 hours, the fishermen should not venture into east central Arabian Sea where Cyclone Kyarr is persisting.

The cyclonic storm Kyarr is moving away from the western coast and the rainfall activity over Goa is likely to reduce from the late evening of Saturday, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.

According to the Twitter handle of World Cyclone Warning Center, “Super Cyclone Kyarr has continued to rapidly intensify, and has now became only the second Category 5 on record in the Arabian Sea. Maximum sustained winds have increased to 160mph, minimum central pressure has decreased to 928 mb.”
